Legionnaires and Aliens

So I had an email go out a couple of days ago that I hadn´t finished writing… I began writing it some time ago, and when I realized I didn´t have time to finish it there and then, I set it aside. “I´ll wrap it up later,” I thought. Yeah right… Note to self: remember to check if draft is set to auto-send… So, if you reading this received a similarly titled email, with clues like (UNFINISHED) or (Something, something, something), you are in fact among the thousands of people who got my rough draft, and I apologize. Sorry!

Alright then, let´s move on to Legionnaires and Aliens…

In the Legionnaire Series I decided to dig into history…

Have you discovered my Legionnaire series yet? In 2017 I published Ghost Legion, the first of what some think is my most entertaining series so far. When I began planning the series I decided I wanted freedom to explore when it comes to the actual plot, but I wanted some real world background for what the Legion was meant to be and how the Legion might eventually play a bigger role than just as soldiers being ordered around, fighting battle after battle.

So I read up on my history. First, it was the organization, the rank system and essentially I based it on the Roman Legions, although I adapted it to the purpose of this series. Then I began looking at what role the Roman Legions actually played, which is when it gets really interesting. You see, the Roman Legions have, at times, played a very political role, as instruments of the powerful, but also as powers in themselves. In general the Legions were loyal to their general or their unit, rather than to some distant political entity that they had no personal connection to, or some ideal, or ideology. So if that general decided to go against the political leadership at the time, well, then he´d have an army at his back. Which, of course, gave the generals a huge amount of influence on Roman society. The mere threat from a general supported by his legions could be enough to change history…

In the Legionnaire Series, we follow Ethan Wang, an eighteen year old about to join the military. Along the way we meet recruits and drill instructors, officers and footsoldiers, and once we get into the thick of things we get to meet some rather interesting aliens. I´ll not give you any spoilers when it comes to those, but let´s just say that aliens can be very… well, alien… ;.) Ever heard of aliens called “sticks” or “blobs” or “clouds”? Well, as I said, alien…
